Our Mission

The Cooperative is organized to provide positive, creative, supervised learning experiences for the children and to further parent education in the principles of child guidance

What happens at a parent cooperative?

By becoming involved with a parent cooperative program, you will:

  • Support and guide your children and their peers as they develop social skills.
  • Discuss child development and parenting strategies with an experienced educator.
  • Make new friends with parents who have children the same age as your own.
  • Develop a new appreciation for the purpose of play with babies and children.
  • Reduce preschool costs through your active participation.

The five cooperative preschools in Edmonds Community College's Parent Cooperative Program focus on learning through play. The curriculum includes age appropriate activities in art, music, math, creative drama, science, and language.

Our Co-Op

An affordable alternative to private preschools, a co-op offers a unique environment for children and parents. What sets a co-op apart from other schools is parent involvement. A low child/parent ratio allows for more activities, greater interaction with each child and increased supervision. Parents learn how to facilitate learning through exploration and self discovery. In addition, Edmonds Community college family life education provides on-site parent instructors. Our instructors come with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the areas of early childhood development and parenting education.

Parent or Caregiver Responsibilities

Parents are required to:

  • Work in the classroom once a week
  • Attend monthly parent meetings
  • Bring snack once a month
  • Bring an enrichment activity quarterly
  • Clean the classroom on scheduled day
  • Complete a daily sign in/out sheet
  • Fulfill fundraising requirement
  • Participate in safety and risk management training

Learning through play

Pre-school classes are filled with singing, dancing, tower building, stories, painting, dress up, field trips and outdoor experiences. Learning activities frequently change to remain stimulating and fun.
